Kouichi Tabata (*1979) at first committed himself entirely to painting and drawing. Almost by coincidence, he was confronted with video art through his studies at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, which led to a fundamental development in his oeuvre at large. Not only did video animation bring his drawings to life, his video art works also inspired him to new conceptual approaches in his drawing works, prominently exemplified in his famous White series. In his very characteristic mixed-media artwork Wildrose, Tabata combines multicolored, repetitive drawings with video animation. Kouichi Tabata lives and works in Berlin.
The artist is a multiple prizewinner and scholar. His works can be found in numerous important public and private collections.
