Toshihiko Mitsuya (*1979) completed his studies at the renowned Seian University of Arts in Otsu, Japan, before moving to his studio in Berlin in 2009. Mitsuya dedicates the focus of his work to aluminium sculptures. What began at the tender age of five as handicraft work, the artist perfected in over 30 years to an impressive craft. He uses the cool, industrial material to create mainly natural objects, organic forms - a contrast that the artist consciously seeks. His plants, animals and mythical creatures also transcend the boundaries between the true-to-detail depiction of authentic objects and imaginative self-creation.
The artist is a multiple prizewinner and scholarship holder; his works can be found in numerous relevant collections, both public and private. He lives and works in Berlin.
